That's some crazy coincidence, right? It's very possible that these products are safe in the bottle, and very dangerous to the skin when they're in contact with skin. (See photo above.) But what about on the shelves?

My results: The water-deep lidocaine gel worked as advertised. It made me pretty damn clear, but it still left behind a very faint white cast. It's just as transparent the tube of Tarte's CVS Clear All Day foundation I tested, and just as good at concealing redness my own face cream—which is to say, very mediocre.
But here's the kicker: CVS Clear All Day moisturizer is only one-third the price of water-deep version. I'm in no position to argue about which is better, though. Kogan says this is why he's not worried about the industry's misuse of chemical products. "Everybody's really good at marketing and taking advantage of a bad situation," he says. "But there are no chemicals in the formulation."
